When times are hard

When times are hard:

-Meditate

-Eat nourishing food

-Drink lots of water — warm water can feel especially good

-Pay attention to how comfortable you are in your clothes, in your chair, in your bed. Make adjustments to make yourself as physically comfortable as possible in your life

-Limit (or eliminate) alcohol

-Prioritize sleep

-Stop scrolling and limit (or eliminate) screens

-Start a temporary news fast

-Get into your body with breath or grounding exercises

-Spend time with people who feed your soul

-Write, paint, sing, dance, draw, build: CREATE

-Move your body in ways that feel good

-Listen to music that speaks to you — seek out art (poetry, sculptures, dance, paintings, etc) that feels nourishing

-Connect with communities and causes that are meaningful to you

-Join or start a nap ministry group or session

-Go outside — notice the weather, notice the animals and birds, the trees and sun and stars

-Spend time in nature. Nature doesn’t change based on the things swirling in your life. Its changes depend on the seasons and on the planet. It can be so reassuring and grounding to reconnect with the steady rhythms of nature when things feel unsteady in our own lives.

-Take the time to move through what you are feeling — set it aside and take breaks but don’t hide it away indefinitely. Feelings don’t work like that.
