Taking our healing out into our communities
Healing work is not meant to happen in isolation. It’s not meant to impact only our individual lives or the lives of just the people closest to us. The healing work we do is meant to reverberate through the world. It is meant to bring us to the point where we are fulfilling our purpose, which, ultimately, is: healing the world.
So often, we get stuck in the “self-care” phase – which might, if we’re intentional about it, impact our partners or kids or friends. But there is so much more potential and purpose beyond self-care. It is caring for self so that we can care for the world – together in community. Just like we were never meant to do motherhood in isolation, we were also never meant to do life, much less HEALING, in isolation. This is communal, connected work. The very purpose of healing ourselves to the point where we can act intentionally instead of simply reactively (or “amgydaly,” as I like to say), is so that we can all be the healing force in the world we were born to be.
Sometimes, our healing journeys can feel empty or unfulfilling is some way. That is often because we are missing the step of bringing what we have learned and gained and become out into our communities and into the world. Connecting online can be a part of this, but there is no replacement for the energy we share when we connect to others in person. We know this intuitively. Zoom calls can work in a pinch, but being in community requires that we BE IN community together. This can look like joining or even starting a group whose mission aligns with your values and your healing work. And never forget that rest and joy are both deeply healing and deeply powerful.
We feel isolated because we are. But we don’t have to be. Our communities are truly so much greater than the sum of their parts. There is so much beauty, healing, and deep power available to all of us — more than any of us had alone — when we join together.
